Q: Do I need to file U.S. taxes if I work in the U.S. on an H-1B visa?
A: Yes. H-1B visa holders are considered U.S. tax residents and are required to file a federal tax return reporting their worldwide income. Additional state filings may also be required depending on where you live and work.
Q: I am an American living abroad — do I still need to file U.S. taxes?
A: Yes. The United States taxes its citizens on worldwide income regardless of where they live. However, you may be able to reduce your tax burden through the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion (FEIE), foreign tax credits, and applicable tax treaties.
Q: What is FBAR and who needs to file it?
A: FBAR (FinCEN Form 114) must be filed by any U.S. person who has a financial interest in or signature authority over foreign bank or financial accounts with an aggregate value exceeding $10,000 at any point during the year. Penalties for non-compliance can be severe.
Q: What is FATCA?
A: FATCA (Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act) requires U.S. taxpayers with specified foreign financial assets exceeding certain thresholds to report those assets on Form 8938. This is separate from and in addition to FBAR reporting.
Q: Can you help a foreign company set up a U.S. subsidiary?
A: Yes. We assist foreign corporations in establishing and structuring U.S. subsidiaries, selecting the right entity type, fulfilling U.S. tax registration requirements, and staying compliant with federal and state tax laws.
Q: Do you work with clients outside of New York?
A: Absolutely. We are a fully remote firm and serve clients across the United States — including New Jersey, Florida, and California — as well as internationally in France, Israel, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the UAE.
Q: Do you offer services in French?
A: Yes. Our principal, Yohan Atlan, is fully fluent in French and holds a French CPA license (Diplôme d'Expert-Comptable). We welcome French-speaking clients from France, Canada, Belgium, and Francophone Africa.
